Best Books For Tweens

I am a 12 year old and a voracious reader, what better place to find books for tweens than asking a 12 year old child about what books we like!

Here is a list of books that I enjoyed reading this year and would recommend to every 12 year old kid anywhere.

1. Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card) -

This science fiction book might be the second one I have read because I don't really like sci-fi, but it surprisingly became one of my favourite books ever. Following Ender through his days at Battle school and Command School was a really beguiling and engaging experience.

2. To Kill A Mockingbird (Harper Lee)-

I am currently reading this book and believe me, it might be a classic but it's not boring at all. Classics are my favourite books to read but many find them boring, but To Kill A Mockingbird is really interesting and a recommended read.

3. Animal Farm (George Orwell)-

This is one book I would never forget. I read this when I was 10 but I never understood it. I read it repeatedly for the last 2 years and now I understood what is the deep meaning of this book which seems somewhat childish.

4. The Count Of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas)-

My favourite favourite book! The best book ever to come in existence. Follow Dantès life from total happiness, to croaking in the depths of an abyss, to revenge, to total happiness again. The Count Of Monte Cristo is a classic tale of love, revenge and generosity. It might be long, but it's worth reading.

5. The Three Musketeers (Alexandre Dumas)-

"ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE!" Really, this man is a genius. Producing not one, but two amazing books. Plunge into the adventures of Athos, Porthos, Aramis and D'Artagnan as they go and save the Queen and take revenge on Milady Winter.

6. Pride And Prejudice (Jane Austen)-

Sounds like a "boring lady getting married in a rich family and living happily ever after" book, but it's not. I absolutely adore this book. Read about Elizabeth Bennet (the protagonist of the book), Darcy, Wickham, Jane Bennet and many others in this marvellous classic.

7. Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brontë)-

The most different and surprising book I have ever read. Jane Eyre portrays the inner turmoil of a young and fiery woman, who is trying to wade her way through the mud to reach the garden of roses (and thorns) on the other side. Few books can transport you to a completely different world, a totally opposite era, and this is one of those books.

8. The Picture Of Dorian Gray (Oscar Wilde)-

Another book with a deep meaning! The Picture Of Dorian Gray tells the story of Mr Gray, a handsome and vain young man. when a friend of Gray, Basil paints a picture of Gray, he says that he would give his soul if the portrait were to grow old and wrinkled while he remained young and handsome. the wish becomes true! I won't say more as to not ruin your first reading of this book.

9. The Odyssey (Homer)-

The Odyssey is a epic poem written by the Ancient Greece poet Homer. The poem is the story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, who wanders for 10 years trying to get home after the Trojan War. It is a sequel to the Iliad, the other Homeric epic.

10. Anne of Green Gables (Lucy Maud Montgomery)-

A feel good book. Follow the adventures of Anne Shirley as she brightens the life at Green Gables and in Avonlea and read about her adoptive family The Cuthberts, Diana Barry, Gilbert Blythe and other characters in this children's classic.
